This books is perfect for you if you have just started to learn German or had a longer break and want to review the basics before you continue with more difficult resources. It’s a textbook because it comes with plenty of grammar notes and exercises and it’s graded reader because you’ll meet the same people throughout the whole book. 

“Carla will nach Deutschland” consists of 20 short chapters. The difficulty of the texts is gradually increasing. Each chapter starts with a short text that will give you a glimpse into the lives and daily activities of Carla and her family. 

You will  not only find comprehension questions and grammar exercises but also conversation questions that will encourage you to apply the newly learned vocabulary and grammar by talking about your own life. This works best with a teacher or alternatively with a language exchange partner. If you’re not that much into speaking but would rather practice your writing skills, that’s also an option.

Once you’ve finished reading this book and have worked intensively with the content, you’ll have a low A2 (elementary) level of German and will be able to understand simple texts and take part in conversations about daily life activities.
