Daily German

What is "Daily German?"

“Daily German” is my VIP program for people who want to study on their own terms but with a teacher (that’s me) at their side. You commit to studying daily for four weeks and I help you by providing any assistance you may need and by holding you accountable. As this is very intensive for me, too, I can only offer “Daily German” to three students a month.

How does this work?

At the beginning of our time together, you decide which materials you want to use,  a GWS magazine, the materials of the “big” GWS Club topic or one of my books (graded readers). So the base of your studies is always text + audio but you decide what you would like to focus on: speaking (voice messages), writing, grammar, new vocabulary. Some people may prefer to focus on one skill for 4 weeks, others prefer a mixture. It’s your choice.

How much time do I need to invest?

We all have busy lives but consistency is the most important part of “Daily German”. I suggest that you set aside at least 15 minutes a day to study German. You can plan your complete 4 weeks or just one week at a time or you decide today when and how long you want to study tomorrow. You do NOT want to decide spontaneously.

How exactly will you help me?

  • I will answer all your questions within 24 hours
  • I will correct your written texts (max 600 words per week, can be one long or several short texts) and give you suggestions on how to improve certain vocabulary or grammar
  • You can send me two voice messages per week (max 5 minutes) where you talk about the topic you’re working on.
  • You can request 4 audio recordings (3-5 minutes) about a topic of your choice from me
  • You can request 4 grammar or vocabulary exercises from me
  • I will help you if you feel stuck
  • I will hold you accountable

How will we keep in touch?

We will use a Google Doc to practice writing and plan your “Daily German” and either WhatsApp or Telegram for quick questions, information exchange and speaking practice via voice chat. There will be no video calls and therefore no issues with time zones or last-minute cancellations.

What level do I need?

The GWS materials are most suited for A2/B1/B2 students. If your current level is A1, I suggest that we work with “Carla will nach Deutschland”, my graded reader for beginners.

Wouldn't I be better off to meet a tutor once a week?

If you prepare for each session and do some serious review work after each lesson, that might indeed be a better choice. But let’s be honest, most of us don’t do this. We hope that the magic will somehow work, but in many cases, it won’t – or much slower than you expected. Or you have a German lesson scheduled and something comes up or you just don’t feel like it. So you cancel or you attend without motivation. But it’s your decision 🙂

Is it ongoing, like a subscription?

No, it’s not. You commit for 4 weeks. Enrolment is only open for a couple of days at the end of each month and I can only accept 3 students at a time.

I was having regular 1:1 lessons with Daniela when I became very busy with my job and personal matters. I had already missed several classes when she suggested to change the format. Although I was really sceptic, I decided to give it a try and the results are amazing. German has become a part of my life, it's no longer just one hour per week and a homework assignment I used to do half an hour before our lesson.
